We are deeply saddened to hear about your family's recent loss. We know this is the most difficult time and send our hearts and prayers to all.
Todd, as your cousins, we will always be here for you and though we haven't always been able to spend as much together as we'd like, when we do get together, it is really special and wonderful. It is times like these, when we are really reminded that we need to cherish our time together on earth. None of us know when we will be leaving. As you know, your dad and Laurie are in a most peaceful, higher plain of existence. Still, it is hard to be separated from them for now especially when its so sudden without warning. So, if we can be of any service to you, in any way, please don't hesitate to call. We love you! Sophia, Steve, and Alex

Our deepest sympathies go out to everyone affected by the tragic loss of Paul and Laurie. You never know when your time is up. Hearing about this reminded me to try to live every day to its fullest. I skipped out on work today and drove to the Mojave Desert to ride my dirt bike for just that reason. I am Todd's cousin and fairly distant family, but family nonetheless. Todd and Debbie have always been there for us through the years. We love them very much. I am so sorry that all of Paul's children have to deal with the loss of their father, especially for McKenzie and Rylie's loss of both parents at such an early age.
Finally, if there is anything we can do for McKenzie and Rylie, Kalinda, Tani, or Todd, please call upon us. We have all suffered tragedies in our own lives and can empathize with loss. Losing one's parents at their young ages will require them to grow up a lot faster than they should have to.
Godspeed Paul and Laurie.
Love, John and Holly Kalivas

paul introduced me to laurie. it was after hurricaine iniki so the hotel was closed down for repairs. i had a catering business and needed someone to help me with cooking. laurie needed a job. a perfect match. since laurie and i were in a work-related situation, it became clear to me that she had the ever-so-desirable quality of being someone i could count on. however, the most treasured quality she brought was her talent for being silly. for finding some way to get a laugh out of whatever we were doing. to me, that is priceless. i can also remember times when i would share something with her that i was upset about and see tears well up in her eyes. she was just so very present. i sure did love her. i loved the "paul and laurie show". annie

Paul and Laurie were such wonderful and hospitable people. They made my first visit to Kauai (to celebrate Mark and Tani's wedding) without a doubt the best vacation I have ever taken. They opened their home to us (9 of us mainlanders) and made sure that we did everything Kauai had to offer.
I especially remember Paul telling me what a magical place Kauai is to raise children - and I see the results in Tani every time I visit her and Mark and I saw the same in Riley and McKenzie during my visit in 2004.
In my own struggles with a death in my family this week I found a quote that I hope can bring a little bit of solace to Todd, Kalinda, Tani, McKenzie and Riley: "Healthy children will not fear life if their elders have integrity enough not to fear death." Paul and Laurie had nothing to fear and they are now free from our bodily limitations of time and space to be with each of you all the time.
Paul and Laurie and all of you are in my thoughts and prayers. I love you guys. Hugs from rainy Rochester! Stanley

To the family of Paul and Laurie,
My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
I am a friend of Laurie's from Boston. I met her on one of my yearly visits to Kauai. I just saw her in March. She was one of the last people I talked to before returning home.
She always made our visits more memorable just by being who she was. She was very excited about her job working with flowers and sharing what a wonderful life she had. Her smile would light up a room and her spirit was contagious. Everyone that ever met her loved her. She was a power of example. She made us feel right at home and welcomed.
I was devastated to hear the tragic news. My heart goes out to her children. God bless you all.
